CMPD investigates homicide after overnight shooting

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Charlotte Mecklenburg Police are investigating a shooting that left one person dead early Saturday morning.

CMPD says the investigation is ongoing near West Summit Avenue in South End. Police responded to South Tryon Street after a call about an assault with a deadly weapon came in at 2:05 a.m. Saturday.

Police say they found Jervon Sloan, 30, with a gunshot wound lying in the street on Summit Ave. Medic pronounced him dead on scene.

Shortly after, police say a second man showed up at Carolinas Medical Center with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound related to the incident.

A suspect in the shooting has been identified and questioned, but no files will be charged at this time.
