Part of person’s leg amputated after being struck by boat on Lake Norman

IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) - A man has lost part of his leg after being struck by a boat on Lake Norman Wednesday night.

According to Iredell Communications, the incident happened on Lake Norman near Brick Kiln Way in Iredell County.

Officials say a woman on the boat turned the boat around when the man fell off a wakeboard, panicked and hit him.

A third person on the boat applied a tourniquet to both of the man’s legs and “likely saved his life,” officials said.

The man was flown to the hospital by helicopter. Doctors are currently trying to save his second leg.

No further information was released.
