CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Officials say a woman was killed and four people were seriously injured in a crash in northwest Charlotte Wednesday morning.

The fatal wreck happened on Oakdale Road off of Brookshire Boulevard around 8 a.m., Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say.

Officers responded to the two-vehicle collision, and when they arrived, they located a Hyundai Sonata and a Dodge Charger in the southwest lane of Oakdale Road.

Witnesses on scene say the Sonata was headed northeast when the driver crossed lanes and struck the Charger that was headed southwest.

The front passenger in the Sonata, identified as 53-year-old Sheila Mosby, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries where she later died.

Both drivers and other passengers of both vehicles were also taken to hospital with serious injuries. None of the other injuries appear to be life-threatening at this time.

Officers say drug impairment is suspected for the driver of the Hyundai Sonata. Detectives will be seeking charges on that driver.

This crash remains under investigation. Any witnesses are asked to call Crime Stoppers at (704) 334-1600 or officers at (704) 432-2169.
