SHELBY, N.C. (WBTV) - A 14-year-old is in critical condition at a Shelby hospital after suffering a gunshot wound during an attempted drug deal.
Deputies with the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office first responded to reports of the shooting on June 6 and located two individuals inside a car at an address off of Devine Road. The driver was a 17-year-old while the 14-year-old victim was in the passenger seat with a gunshot wound to his chest.
EMS was called to the scene and performed lifesaving measures on the victim before transporting him to a local hospital where he is listed in critical but stable condition.
An ensuing investigation into the matter led deputies to a residence off of Jim Elliott Road near Highway 18. At that location, investigators found evidence of the shooting including a handgun, marijuana and $1,8000 in cash. Gabriel Alsubagha was also located at this address and was detained at that time.
Asubagha was later charged with two counts of attempted first degree murder for his involvement in the matter. The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident at this time and additional charges are forthcoming.
