Rain may thin out in spots towards evening, but more’s in store for Saturday

First Alert Forecast: Friday, June 7 @4pm

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Areas of rain continue to move through heavy at times this afternoon, however, we are seeing signs that the rain may thin out in spots this evening as the bulk of it shifts Northeast.

This will be the trend of the rainy forecast all weekend.. there will be periods where steady rain gives way to cloudy breaks & spotty showers, before picking back up again.

If you're trying to plan around the weekend rain, Saturday before Noon may be your best bet to squeeze in some time outside with just patchy showers possible before things pick back up again during the afternoon and evening.

Heavy rain and flooding will become an increasing concern throughout the weekend as Sunday and Monday will be just as wet. Generally, 2 to 4 inches of rain could be expected by late Monday, but locally higher amounts are certainly possible (if not likely in the mountains and foothills).

Moving forward, there are conflicting signs as to whether or not things start to improve by Tuesday, however, we are leaning towards a drier solution at the moment with the system pulling out by midweek.
