Pair wanted in Gastonia phone app theft

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) - Police in Gastonia are asking for the public’s help identifying two people they say stole $600 from a good Samaritan using a cell phone app after he tried to help them.

The incident happened on June 2 in the parking lot of the Circle K on E. Franklin Boulevard. Officers say a man wearing an Atlanta Braves cap and a woman in a white sports bra asked to use the victim’s cell phone.

The good Samaritan let the pair use his phone and the duo then left in a dark gray, late-2000 model Ford Taurus. It wasn’t until later that the victim realized $600 had been stolen by two Cash App transfers.

The Gastonia Police Department shared information about the theft on their Facebook page.

Anyone who recognizes the suspects or has further information about the case is asked to call detectives at 704-842-5127.
