CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - After seven straight days where we failed to hit 80 degrees for the high temperature, that chain was broken today as we hit 81 on Thursday.
But that’s only the beginning because an abrupt increase in temperatures is about to hit us.
The highest temperature so far this year is 86 and we hit that three times. We should easily surpass that perhaps as early as Friday.
And we will likely see our first 90° day of the season over the next few days, and while it’s possible Friday, we’ll probably stop just short in the upper 80s, before a better shot at hitting 90° on Saturday.
Sunday is still quite warm, in the upper 80s, and unlike the last two stormy weekends both days this weekend look to remain dry. An isolated (10%) storm can’t be ruled out in the mountains, but we’ll have a tough time getting anything to develop outside of there.
There could be a couple more scattered storms Monday evening, but even still that doesn't look like anything terribly wide-spread. With a lack of any true rain in the forecast, the warmth will remain the big headline, with temps in the upper 80s to near 90° through the end of next week.
