ALEXANDER COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) - School officials issued a code-in at an elementary school in Alexander County as police look for a suspect in the area Friday afternoon.
According to Alexander County Schools, officials issued the code-in for Bethlehem Elementary School.
The code-in was issued due to police looking for a suspect in the community.
School officials say this is a precautionary action based on information from local law enforcement regarding activity in the area but not necessarily on the school campus.
School buses are reportedly beginning to dismiss as normal, but out of caution, law enforcement will travel behind the buses as they take students home.
Police have spoken with bus drivers to exercise extreme caution while dropping off students.
According to the Alexander County Schools website, during a code-in, students are kept contained in the classroom, as officials strictly monitor outside access.
