GRANITE FALLS, N.C. (WBTV) - Police are looking for a driver who reportedly went to get help, leaving a couple trapped in an SUV for nine hours after the vehicle rolled off a 25-foot embankment and flipped over in Granite Falls Thursday morning.
According to the Granite Falls Police Department, the SUV went about 25 feet down an embankment and overturned on Executive Park Drive just off of US 321.
Officials say the driver and a couple were in the car.
The driver reportedly left the vehicle around 6 a.m. to get help but never came back. Police are still looking for the driver, who the couple only know as “Shawn.”
The couple remained trapped in the vehicle for nine hours.
Police say the couple had no recollection as to what happened the rest of the day until 3 p.m. when they woke up, eventually forced their way out of the vehicle and walked to get help.
Both were treated as the scene and released.
