Crime Stoppers: Police looking for man who robbed north Charlotte convenience store at gunpoint

Crime Stoppers: Man pulls gun, demands cash at Express Mart

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Detectives from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department are looking for the man who robbed a north Charlotte convenience store at gunpoint. The incident happened May 5 at the Xpress Mart at 4200 Statesville Road.

Surveillance footage recorded inside of the store shows a man walk into the business with a gun drawn. The man heads right for the back of the store to confront an employee.

“Once inside, behind the cash registers, he goes to a rear office where one of the employees are. He tells the employee, “where’s the money at?” explained Detective Brandon Miller from the CMPD.

The surveillance footage shows the suspect forcing the employee to open up the register at gunpoint. The robber grabs cash from the register while the store employee watches helplessly.

“The store person handled it very well despite having a gun pointed at him. He cooperated with the suspect which is probably why the suspect left out so quickly,” said Miller.

The video shows the suspect run out of the store as soon as he’s grabbed several bills from the register.

“A lot of things could have gone wrong once he entered the store with his gun out,” said Miller about the robbery.

The suspect appeared to be wearing a jacket, a cap and bright yellow gloves. A police report states that the suspect may have gotten into a small, gray getaway vehicle.
