SALISBURY, NC (WBTV) - Police are investigating after a woman was shot in the chest in Salisbury Monday night.
According to the Salisbury Police Department, the incident happened at the intersection of Union Heights Boulevard at Crown Point Drive around 9 p.m. Police found a 49-year-old woman with a single gunshot wound to her upper chest.
Officers started administering first aid to the woman until Salisbury Fire and Rowan EMS arrived on scene.
The woman, who was conscious and alert on scene, was taken by ambulance to NC Baptist Hospital for further treatment of her wound. Tuesday afternoon, officials said she was in stable condition.
Officials have not released a possible motive or and suspect information, but police said they do not believe the shooting was random. The victim, they said, was the intended target.
