Two vehicles struck following shootout on I-85 in Charlotte

No injuries after shootout on I-85

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A dispute involving two acquaintances escalated into a shooting on Sunday evening between drivers on I-85 near Beatties Ford Road.

Police report that the shooting was initiated by a victim who confronted the male suspect about a personal dispute at a gas station. When the victim exited the establishment at around 5:50 p.m. in a separate vehicle, the suspect followed and began firing at the car after getting onto I-85 N.

The victim was unhurt by the gunfire but a vehicle with innocent bystanders driving on the highway during the exchange was struck. This driver reported that herself, her fiance and her three children, including an infant, were also uninjured.

The family spoke to WBTV Monday morning. The family says they were on their way to the Aquarium at Concord Mills when the bullets flew through their windshield.

Bullets came within inches of missing their babies car seat.

Police are continuing to investigate the matter and no arrest has been made at this point.
