First Alert Saturday, showers and storms roll through the region

Weather update

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A First Alert Day has been declared as periods of rain are in the forecast for most of the day on Saturday, with pockets of heavier rain and embedded thunderstorms at times as well.

Starting early Saturday afternoon, reports of storm warnings began being issued by the National Weather Service, beginning near Cleveland County before spreading east into the remainder of the viewing region.

The storms continued into South Carolina, with Severe Thunderstorm Warnings going into effect until 4:45 p.m. for several counties.

Early reports of damages were minimal, although a fallen tree damaged a home in Belmont, with no one in the home suffering any injuries.

Not expecting as much rain on Mother’s Day but don’t be fooled, low clouds and patchy areas of rain will still be part of the picture again.

All of this will finally give way to a delightful weather pattern just in time for Monday.

That’s right, bright sunshine and pleasant temperatures will be the rule not just for Monday but quite possibly the entire work week next week.

If you have outdoor plans this weekend, make sure you have a backup plan!
