CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - May 10th marked the 5th annual Kickin’ It With Cam! Celebrity Kickball Tournament held in Charlotte by Panthers quarterback Cam Newton. It also marked the eve of his 30th birthday.
“I’m not changing. I’m too old to change,” Newton said. “But I can get better. That’s one thing that I can do.”
Newton also took the time to reflect on the fact that he is still playing in the NFL at age 30.
"I’m one of the lucky few to be able to still be playing and still have a lot of life in my bones, as well,” Newton said.
There was no shortage of familiar faces from Newton’s career that came out to support his charitable efforts, from former teammates like Josh Norman to current ones like Luke Kuechly, DJ Moore, and Christian McCaffrey.
“It’s a blast. Every year everybody looks forward to it,” McCaffrey said. “We get a lot of great fans, all the guys coming out, guys that you used to play with. It’s just a fun event. It’s for a great cause.”
This year 21 teams comprised of Panthers players, celebrity athletes and entertainers, as well as community leaders competed.
The tournament benefited local youth in the areas of education, diversity and inclusion and wellness.
