LINCOLN COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - Lincoln County officials made the largest drug bust in county history, seizing a record 117 pounds of cocaine worth $6.4 million Wednesday.
According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, deputies stopped a vehicle on the Gastonia Highway on Wednesday because of suspicious activities and several traffic violations.
After speaking to the driver, narcotics officers used the drug dog, Anya, to conduct an open-air sniff around the vehicle. The K-9 alerted officers to the presence of drugs in the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle turned up cocaine weighing 117 pounds. Officials say the street value of the cocaine was estimated at $6.4 million and is by far the largest drug bust ever in Lincoln County.
The driver of the vehicle Jason Evan Williams, 48, of Goldsboro was arrested and charged with felony trafficking in cocaine by possession, by transport and maintaining a dwelling or vehicle for a controlled substance.
Williams was taken before a Lincoln County magistrate and placed in the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center under a $2 million secured bond.
Officials say the investigation is continuing along with Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, Huntersville Police Department, Cornelius Police Department and Pineville Police Department.
