CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools has named Kimberly Tuttle of Levine Middle College High the 2019 Teacher of the Year. Micah Fagan of Northridge Middle is the 2019 Teacher Assistant of the Year.
The awards were announced at a ceremony at Mallard Creek High on May 8.
Tuttle teaches 11th-grade English Honors and Advanced Placement language and composition. She began her teaching career 20 years ago at West Charlotte.
At the end of her first year, she was named CMS New Teacher of the Year.
“This has been really cool to have all this come full circle after 20 years of teaching,” said Tuttle.
Levine Principal Joey Burch said Tuttle is always working hard to meet the needs of her students.
“Every day is a good day in Ms. Tuttle’s classroom,” he said. “She is prepared each day, not only with a quality lesson plan, but with a welcoming smile and a nurturing learning environment.”
Tuttle received $1,700 from signature sponsors Charles G. Monnett III & Associates, a one-year lease on a new car from Keffer Volkswagen, a television from the National Teachers Association and school supplies from Classroom Central.
Fagan received $1,000 from award sponsor Charles G. Monnett III & Associates.
He also received a television from the National Teachers Association and supplies from Classroom Central. Fagan works with all three grade levels at Northridge, focusing on math. He also teaches an occasional science or social studies class.
“I am all over the building all the time,” said Fagan. “My colleagues and students laugh because every day I am constantly being called on the intercom to go help somewhere else.”
