CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Officials found a gun at Cotswold Elementary School in Charlotte Wednesday.
According to a message sent to families from Principal Alicia G. Hash, administration received a report that a weapon was on the school’s campus.
Law Enforcement was immediately notified, and the matter was investigated with school administration.
During the investigation, a firearm was found and did not contain ammunition.
No students or staff were harmed or threatened.
“It is a serious violation to bring weapons onto a school campus. Any student violating the CMS Code of Student Conduct will receive appropriate disciplinary action,” Principal Hash said. “It is my goal to provide a safe environment for teaching and learning. If a student is aware of a weapon on our campus or any school campus, I ask that they tell a school employee immediately. Please have a conversation with your student about making sure they are not bringing inappropriate items to school. I appreciate your support of our school and our students.”
Officials have not released any information on where the gun was found or who it belonged to. No further information was released.
