CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Law enforcement officials are searching for the driver of a car that crashed on I-485 after running from a NC State Trooper Wednesday afternoon.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP), the trooper tried to pull the suspect vehicle over for a traffic violation. But instead of stopping, NCSHP says the driver took off.

A short time later, the black 4-door sedan crashed in the median on I-485 at mile marker 33, near University City Boulevard in north Charlotte. Troopers say the driver then jumped from the vehicle and ran away on foot. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police brought in a K-9 officer to track the driver, but were unable to locate them.

No information about the suspect has been released.

Officials say drugs were found in the crashed vehicle. From WBTV’s Sky3, a large quantity of what appeared to be drugs could be seen on top of vehicle.

Anyone with information about the incident or the driver of the crashed vehicle should call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
