Charlotte Checkers Prepare for Game 3 Against Hershey

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The Charlotte Checkers went up 2-games-to-nothing in their 2nd round Calder Cup playoff series against Hershey Saturday night, after their 7-3 victory against the Bears. Charlotte’s offense came out firing with five different skaters tallying goals.

The Checkers will take their 2-0 series lead up to Hershey on Tuesday, May 7, for Game 3 at 7 p.m.

“It’s a tough building to play in, but if we can survive the first five minutes there and maybe get a quick goal and get them off their game that’d be the key for our start,” Checkers head coach Mike Vellucci said.

Monday the team held practice before making the trip to Pennsylvania for Games 3 and 4, and while they know road games are always a challenge, leaving Charlotte with the right mindset is key.

“I was just sitting there we’re going through drills in practice and I’m thinking to myself this is fun. I’m having a good time, usually it’s kind of a grind and you’re saying how much longer,” Vellucci said. “But everybody is excited and messing around a little bit, but working hard is the key.”
