Car stolen at gunpoint, suspect wanted

MATTHEWS, NC (WBTV) - The Matthews Police Department is asking for public assistance in locating a stolen car and identifying the suspect who took it at gunpoint early Saturday morning.

At 3:30 a.m., an officer encountered the victim walking along the side of the road on E. John Street. The victim reported that he had been stopped at an intersection when a white pickup truck pulled up behind him.

An individual described as a white male exited the truck and approached the victim’s car, a brown 2005 Jeep Liberty. The suspect demanded that the driver exit the vehicle before getting in the driver’s seat and following the pickup truck onto the entrance to the I-485 outer loop.
