CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A man was shot and killed at an apartment complex near the University of North Carolina-Charlotte (UNCC) Wednesday evening, according to police.
The shooting happened around 7:45 p.m. at a complex at the intersection of University City Boulevard and Chuck Wagon Court, off of E. Mallard Creek Church Road.
Officers responded for a call about an assault with a deadly weapon and found a male victim with a gunshot wound.
That victim, later identified as Donqwavias Davis, was rushed to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead by hospital staff, police said, making the case a homicide investigation.
Police say the shooting stemmed from a fight near the apartment pool. Officials say the incident has no affiliation to UNC Charlotte and there are no threats to the campus.
One day earlier on Tuesday, two students were killed and four others injured on the college’s campus.
Javier Concepcion-Perez, 20, was arrested on May 4 in connection with the incident and charged with murder by CMPD.
This remains an ongoing, active investigation.
