ALEXANDER COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA (WBTV) - He’s 17 and back Thursday night from having the dream trip of a lifetime.
Last week we introduced you to Daveion Washington. He lives with autism and LOVES facts and figures of the NFL, even making a publication called “Daveion’s Weekend Preview” for his classmates at Alexander Central High School.
In return, his classmates raised money to send him to the NFL Draft in Nashville.
The video shows Daveion dressed up, hitting the red carpet with the Charlotte charity that helped him get there, Dream On 3.
First he met Cody Ford, who played at Oklahoma and was drafted by the Buffalo Bills. Next up, Marquise Brown, who was drafted by the Ravens, and showing off his Big 12 championship ring. Then, Daveion met Nick Bosa, from Ohio State who ended up being the second overall draft pick, by the 49ers.
Eventually, Daveion was even interviewed by our hometown guy there working the red carpet, former Carolina Panthers and Pittsburgh Steeler, DeAngelo Williams.
Daveion’s favorite team is the Seattle Seahawks. On night one, he hung with them as they announced their pick – you could see his big smile on network TV during the celebration of defensive end LJ Collier.
By the last night he’d made such an impression, he was asked to walk on stage and make the announcement for the 249th pick in the entire draft.
Certainly a weekend to remember. Crowds, fans, full tours and being center stage.
Thanks to our friends at Wheelhouse Media for sharing their excellent video with us, in order to show you this feel-good moment.
This was the first time charity Dream On 3 sent a kid to the NFL Draft.
