CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Two arrests have been made in a Sunday afternoon shooting that left a woman dead and a man seriously injured in east Charlotte.
The shooting happened at a home off of Snow Lane, near W.T. Harris and Albemarle Road. The victims, 21-year-old Shalecia Shav’ea Williams and a man - whose name has not been released - were both taken to the hospital from the scene.
Officials say Williams was later declared dead at the hospital.
“So tragic. I don’t even have the words,” said Shelita Thomas, Williams’ mother. “She had a big heart. She cared for a lot of people. Anybody. She never met a stranger.”
Williams was a mother to a 1-year-old boy.
“I will let him know he had one of the best mothers he could ask for,” said Thomas. “I loved her dearly, I know she knew that. I just wanted the best for her.”
On Monday, police arrested 23-year-old Reco Lamont Perry Jr. and charged him with murder in Williams’ death. Eighteen-year-old Beyonce Rorie was also arrested and charged with accessory after the fact to murder.
“It is sad because kids can’t even come outside and play anymore, or come outside and ride bikes. It is sad that they have to worry about being shot or being hurt while playing and being kids,” said Janiya who heard the shots.
Pervis Thomas is Shalecia Williams’ step-father and grew up in Charlotte.
“I was in shock. I am still in shock,” said Thomas. “We have to do something about these guns man. This gun violence is off the roof now.”
Reign Qualls, a family friend, said she learned of Williams’ passing on Facebook. She was devastated.
“It broke my heart. I just instantly started crying - just instantly started crying,” said Qualls.
She offered up a heartfelt message for the deceased mother during an interview with WBTV.
“I’m sorry this happened to you and everybody loves you and we’re all just heartbroken, just heartbroken. I’m sorry this happened,” said Qualls through teary eyes.
