CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - With the 6th pick in the NFL Draft, the New York Giants selected former Charlotte Latin and Duke QB Daniel Jones.
Jones becomes the highest drafted player from our viewing area since former South Pointe Rock Hill defensive end Jadeveon Clowney went #1 in 2014. He is also now the 7th Duke player to be a first round draft pick and the first since Laken Tomlinson in 2015.
In 36 games at Duke, Jones had a completion percentage of .599 with 8,201 passing yards and 52 touchdowns. He also rushed for over 13 hundred yards in his Blue Devil career with 17 rushing scores.
This past season, he completed 60 percent of his passes with 22 touchdowns. He finished career with a Offensive Player of the Game performance in the Independence Bowl as he threw for a bowl record 423 yards and 5 passing TD. He also had one rushing TD.
At Charlotte Latin, Jones was a 3 year letterman and threw for over 69 hundred yards in his career.
