CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The man that hit and killed a local high school basketball player pleaded guilty to a lesser charge on Thursday in a Mecklenburg County Courtroom.
Dylan Leviner pleaded guilty to Misdemeanor Death by Motor Vehicle after hitting and killing Misquase ‘Mikey’ Maddox back in 2018.
Maddox was a local basketball player and loved in the community.
Police say Maddox was hit and killed around 1 a.m. on August 11, 2018 while on his bike riding down Old Concord Road.
In court Thursday, the prosecutor revealed that Leviner was speeding but was not under the influence of any drugs or alcohol and in a portion of road that was not well lit.
Maddox was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Dylan Leviner avoided any jail time but will have supervised probation and will be required to pay Maddox’s family more than $5,000 for funeral costs.
