LONG VIEW, NC (WBTV) - Investigators in Long View are trying to determine who fired two dozen shots towards a home on 23rd Street SW Saturday night.
No one inside the home was hit. In fact, the home itself was not struck, but several vehicles, a basketball goal, and the carport were.
“We believe two weapons were used, “ said Sgt. Scott Pitts. “One could have been a rifle.”
It happened just after 10 on Saturday night. Police say 7 adults and 3 children were inside the home when it happened. The home has been the scene of several calls to police in the past year, they said. The calls ranged from domestics to narcotics related calls, said Pitts.
Neighbor Sadie Pruett was standing outside when she saw the SUV drive by and then heard the shots.
“It was like rapid fire,” she said.
Pruett’s car out front was hit by one of the bullets.
“Thank god no one was standing near that spot,” she said.
Part of the shooting was caught by a home surveillance camera. The images are dark and grainy, but police are hoping someone will recognize the SUV.
So far, police have no suspects or motive in what happened, but Pitts says whatever the reason - it was not worth putting lives in jeopardy.
“I’m sure whatever it was, it was a petty thing,” he said.
Anyone with information is urged to call the Long View Police Department at 828-327-2343.
