CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Police are investigating several shootings into homes that left at least two people injured in Charlotte early Tuesday morning.
According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the shootings happened at homes on Enoch Drive, Bradford Drive, Thriftwood Drive and Esmeralda Drive between 12:45 a.m. and 1:05 a.m.
Police arrived on Esmeralda Drive shortly after 1 a.m. and found a person with a gunshot wound and a home that had been shot into. On Sunday, police say they arrived at the same home where someone had a gunshot wound to the lower leg. Police believe the two Esmeralda Drive shootings on Sunday and Tuesday were connected.
One Charlotte family says they are being randomly targeted after their home was shot into twice, in two days. The first shooting on Esmeralada Drive happened early Easter morning. One person was shot in the leg. And then this morning, at the same home – the same person was shot in the arm.
Police say they counted 61 bullet holes in total.
“They have no regards for no one’s life, their belongings, or anything,” said one homeowner whose house was blasted with bullets.
The woman, who wants to keep her privacy for safety reasons, said her family has been terrorized and she doesn’t know why. She says her mom, daughter and grand-kids pinned mattresses against the doors and dropped on the floor to try and` avoid the bullets.
“I’m scared and tired because this is senseless. A senseless crime is happening to innocent people,” she said.
Police cars could be found lined up along the street Tuesday morning, as officers continued to investigate.
The woman, who has asked not to be identified, also said officers have been trying to get to the bottom of it, even by going so far as to ask about everyone’s significant others.
“No one’s going through any relationship problems or domestic violence or anything of that sort.”
Police officers don’t know who did the shooting and the family that was targeted says they had a couple of people in mind, but when officers looked into it - they found those people are sitting in jail right now.
“I know they’re on their job and they’re working hard to get this solved.”
Neighbors also told WBTV’s Bria Bell they have just as many questions as the police do. They want things to go back to normal.
Police say, until the shooter is caught, they’re making it a point to patrol Esmeralda Dr. to look after the residents to keep them safe.
On Bradford Drive, officers say they found a person with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and a nearby home that had been shot into.
On Enoch Drive and Thriftwood Drive, officers say they found homes that had been shot into. No one was injured at those locations.
Crime Scene Search responded to each scene to process the scene and collect physical evidence.
CMPD believes Tuesday’s four early morning shootings are connected and involve people in an ongoing dispute, but no arrests have been made.
The investigation is active and ongoing.
