CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - For the 16th straight year, Phil Mickelson will enter the Wells Fargo Championship.

“Phil is not only a fan-favorite around the world, he certainly is here in Charlotte,” said Tournament Director Gary Sobba in a press release provided by the tournament. “His support of the Wells Fargo Championship since 2014 has been outstanding and much appreciated.”

Phil holds the tournament record for the most top 10 finishes as he has 10 all time. He also holds the tournament record for the most consecutive 36 hole cuts made at 15.

He has won over $3.5 million at the Wells Fargo Championship which is only 2nd to 2 time Wells Fargo Champ Rory McIlroy who committed to the tournament on Monday.

With all his success, Phil has never won this tournament.

Last year in Charlotte, Phil finished tied for 5th.

So far this season, the five time major winner has one victory at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and finished tied for 18th at the Masters last week.

Mickelson joins a field that now has 12 golfers who have won majors including Jason Day, Justin Thomas, Henrik Stenson, and McIlroy.

There is still time for more big names to enter the event here in Charlotte. Golfers have until April 26th to commit.
