1 killed, 1 injured in shooting at east Charlotte apartment, homicide investigation underway

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - A homicide investigation is underway after one person was killed and another was injured in a shooting at an apartment in east Charlotte Saturday night.

According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the incident happened on Barrington Drive around 9:30 p.m.

Police say the shooting happened during an attempted robbery.

When officers arrived, they found Derrick Lamar Chambers, 31, with a gunshot wound inside of an apartment.

He was pronounced dead on scene.

Another male was taken to Atrium Health with non-life threatening injuries suffered in the incident.

Homicide detectives canvassed the area to determine whether there are any witnesses to this incident.

There’s no word on how many people were involved or any possible suspects.

This is an ongoing, active investigation.
