CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Ranson IB Middle School was placed on lockdown Thursday morning after officials say an unloaded gun was found on campus.
The gun which was located in a trash bin outside of the school, was never brought inside, CMS Principal Neodria Brown told parents in a message. The gun was retrieved from the trash bin by law enforcement.
The gun was brought on campus by a student on a bus and discarded in the trash bin, officials say.
Principal Brown sent out the following message to parents alerting them of the incident.
The principal says the school was placed on lockdown out of an abundance of caution.
No one was injured during the incident and school officials say the case remains under investigation. Officials did not say if a student has been disciplined.
Parents say the pattern of guns in CMS schools needs to stop.
“If we can figure out logistics for an [NBA] Allstar weekend, I’m sure that we cans it down with some schools or some districts across the nation, globally to figure out best practices for how to track guns from getting on our campuses," said one of the parents we spoke with.
