LINCOLN COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - A Lincoln County business owner held a suspect at gunpoint after he attempted to take off with a pickup truck filled with tools from Cronland Lumber Yard.
When deputies arrived at the business around 5:40 p.m. Thursday, the business owner, Stan Cronland, had the suspect, Matthew Stone Hulett, out of the truck and on the ground at gunpoint, a release from Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office stated.
Cronland told officials he was pulling up to the business parking lot when he saw a white pickup truck parked by one of the buildings. Cronland says the truck tried to leave so he turned his vehicle around and sped up to cut the vehicle off.
Cronland held the suspect at gunpoint until officials arrived on the scene, the release stated.
Hulett told the business owner that he had taken items from one of the buildings and they were on the back of the truck, according to the release. The suspect allegedly begged Cronland not to call the police because he had been in prison before.
The tools found in the bed of the truck were valued at more than $3,000 and were returned to the owner. Hulett was charged with one felony count each of breaking and entering a building, larceny after breaking and entering and possession of stolen goods.
