CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Mostly cloudy and unseasonably mild conditions greet us this morning and we’ve already smashed one record for the day! The low temperature of just 64° in Charlotte shattered the previous record of 59° set all the way back in 1884.
That warm start will set the stage for another record to tumble later today. After three straight days in the 70s, today will be the warmest day of the week as south winds kick up ahead of our next front. Expect readings in the upper 70s to near 80° during the afternoon before a cold front swings through early Friday with a couple of very spotty showers. I’m forecasting 79° in Charlotte this afternoon and that would shatter the standing record of 74° set back in 1999.
Behind Friday’s front, temperatures finally retreat to more seasonable readings over the weekend. Saturday will bring a mix of clouds and sunshine with highs in the lower 50s following lows in the 30s.
Looking ahead, there will be more clouds around Sunday with chilly readings in the 40s and perhaps a spotty shower late on Sunday before a more widespread rain event looks to unfold Monday into Tuesday.
Enjoy the warm weather and have a terrific Thursday!
