Cam Newton gives fans VIP access to offseason shoulder surgery on new Youtube channel
“That cartilage damage was not as extensive as we feared,” the Doctor told Newton as he was waking up from the anesthesia. “It was definitely there we knew that but it was pretty small. If we get that motion back and keep it we’ll be pretty good.”

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - He is pulling back the curtain. Those who thought they knew Cam Newton, the Instagram cryptographer Cam Newton, need to think again.

Fresh off the grand opening of his swaggy cigar bar in downtown Atlanta during Super Bowl 53, Newton added the first longform video to his YouTube channel focusing solely on his off-season shoulder surgery.

“This year was rather interesting,” said Newton, beginning the story of his shoulder saga through a YouTube video titled ‘what’s wrong with my shoulder?.' “A roller coaster to say the least.”

The channel, according to Newton, offers fans exclusive access to the professional and personal challenges Cam Newton faces in his pursuit of NFL greatness. A group of executive producers, editors and camera operators expect to chronicle the Panthers star Quarterback’s “7-on-7 league with his father, training process with other pro athletes, and Cam’s love for fashion & style.”

The video jumps back and forth between Cam narrating his shoulder surgery and video of him driving to the hospital, going under anesthesia and waking up to a doctor describing the successful surgery.

“That cartilage damage was not as extensive as we feared,” the Doctor told Newton as he was waking up from the anesthesia. “It was definitely there we knew that but it was pretty small. If we get that motion back and keep it we’ll be pretty good.”

Newton set a foundation before leading up to his surgery by talking about a season that he wished went very differently.

“At one point in time I thought we were Super Bowl contenders,” said Newton reflecting on the season.

Then the loses started piling up.

“Not only was the losing affecting me it was my body. My shoulder in particular... was nagging in all year.”

The videographer chronicling Newton’s shoulder procedure accompanied him to the hospital the morning of his surgery. The Panthers announced Newton’s surgery was a success that afternoon and he would immediately start rehabilitation.

The franchise quarterback missed the final two games of the 2018 regular season with shoulder soreness.

The video of Newton describing what doctors would be doing to his shoulder fills in the gaps of the day that the Panthers release wasn’t able to provide details.

While driving to the hospital at 5:30 in the morning, Newton says the goal of the surgery is to “go in the shoulder joint – labrum to rotator cuff and clean up everything around it.” It’s evident in the way he talks about his shoulder that it was a nagging, “aching” injury the second half of the season.

“I didn’t know what the f--- was wrong with my shoulder,” said Newton. “I couldn’t throw the ball further than 30 yards – no lie.”

He even went as far to say defenses were exposing him in games because they knew he couldn’t throw the ball downfield.

“There is so much that happens in my life that I am not able to include on my social media channels – from my growth in the fashion world to the development of my business interests to my work with my 7-on-7 team,” said Newton, in the description of the YouTube video that kicked off the social media series. “I look forward to taking a deeper dive into my life through YouTube continue to develop a variety of passion projects. Prepare yourself for The Drip.”
