CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - As a weak cool front to our north tries to ooze in from Virginia, there could be a stray shower or two across the Piedmont today, but the best rain chances are confined to the mountains. Even with a bit more cloud cover around, we’ll stay above average today with highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s. With that better rain chance in the mountains, it will be cooler there with highs closer to 60°.
Mostly cloudy and unseasonably mild with a record-breaking – warm – low temperature of just 62° in Charlotte. The standing record is 59° set all the way back in 1884.
Thursday will bring the warmest day of the week as south winds really kick up ahead of our next front. Expect readings in the upper 70s to near 80° during the afternoon before a cold front swings through Friday with a couple of very spotty showers. At this point, I’m forecasting 79° in Charlotte Thursday. That would shatter the standing record of 74° set back in 1999.
Behind Friday’s front, temperatures finally retreat to more seasonable readings in the 50s with lows in the 30s for Saturday and Sunday.
Looking ahead, while there may be a spotty shower on Sunday, a more substantial rain event may unfold Monday into Tuesday.
Hope you have a great hump day!
