When the officer approached the vehicle, Budney sped off with two passengers inside the car with him. The vehicle traveled to the Wilkesboro Highway where the two passengers exited the car before driving off again on N. Center St.

After entering Downtown Statesville, Budney ran through a red light on Water St. and nearly collided with another vehicle, leading him to fishtail and lose control of the car. The vehicle struck a flowerbed and continued into the driveway of Risto’s Place and Twisted Oak before striking a wall and overturning.

Officers arrested Budney at the scene of the crash and took him to the Iredell Memorial Hospital for medical clearance where he denied treatment and was transported to Iredell County Jail. He has been charged with felony speeding to elude arrest, felony possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphenalia.

Budney also received a number of citations for traffic violations, driving with a revoked license and vehicle equipment violations. The two passengers were not charged and were released at the scene.
