CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - One person was killed after a fire erupted at a home in Union County early Friday morning.
The fire started around 12 a.m. on Old Charlotte Highway in the City of Monroe. Monroe Fire was on the scene in less than five minutes and located the house which sits back off of Old Charlotte Highway behind two other homes.
Firefighters extinguished the flames and made entrance into the home when they located a deceased person, later identified as Shari Shawnell Ray.
Fire Chief Ron Fowler says there was no one else in the home at the time of the fire.
Monroe Fire, Monroe Police Department, Union County Fire Marshal and the North Carolina Fire Marshal are working to determine the cause of the fire. Officials say they will also be looking to see if the home had smoke detectors.
