CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - In this week’s Forever Family feature, you will meet Shariesa. Like her younger brother and sister, she is a calm, reserved child who strikes me as someone who is more interested in listening to others rather than calling attention to herself.
But as you’ll see and hear at the very end of this story, when I pressed her to tell me what being adopted would mean to her, she told me: “If you get adopted they don’t leave, they become your mom and dad”.
Stop and think about that for a moment. Oh how I took for granted waking up every day KNOWING my (adoptive) parents were going nowhere, ever! I had absolute certainty they would be there for me until the end of time. In fact that certainty was so baked into my life, the thought never crossed my mind that my family situation would ever change or look any different.
I cannot imagine being a child and living with that uncertainty, how that must weigh on someone so vulnerable. Heck, I didn’t want to go to summer camp and spend a week away from home! Ok, maybe I was a Momma’s boy, but contrast that “trauma” I had with the perpetual unknown these children face every hour of every day of their lives. Again, I simply cannot comprehend it.
Shariesa is looking for a Forever Family with her brother and sister. She is 12 years old. She likes riding roller coasters and loves science. She is the oldest out of the three and it was immediately obvious to me she is so loving and caring! She needs someone to look up to - a parent. Please watch her story.
