CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Your time is precious so the WBTV Investigatives team went to work finding out which airline is most likely to be late landing at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport. For data available in 2018 Frontier and United were on-time the least while Delta, Republic and American has the best on-time percentages.
The data comes from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics and measures the percentage of flights that arrived in schedule from January through October 2018.
Frontier’s flights were on-time landing in Charlotte 67.46 percent of the time while United was on-time 68.29% of the time.
Frontier also had the largest amount of delays due to “air carrier” issues, that is delays within the airliners' control.
No one from Frontier responded to WBTV’s email requesting a comment.
A spokesperson from United said “We know that we need to approve on our arrival rate. In departures we lead competitors in getting our plane out of the gate. We operate in some of the busiest airports (Chicago, Newark) and it gets congested."
Delta, Republic and American were on-time the most frequently at 87.23 percent, 84.58 percent and 83.67 percent respectively.
American operated the most flights out of Charlotte from January through October at more than 80,000 arrivals.
An American spokesperson provided the following statement.
“As CLT’s largest carrier, we strive to serve our customers with a safe and on-time operation. We know that there is always room for improvement; but with 178,000 flights operated by American or our regional partners, we are proud of our performance with less than a 2% cancellation rate compared to our competitors and less than a tenth of a percentage away from the top on time performer who operates 70,000 fewer flights than we do per year. Our 11,500 Charlotte based team members work hard to run an on time airline and reliability is a priority for American as a whole.”
