Statesville robbery suspect arrested in Texas

STATESVILLE, NC (WBTV) - A man believed to be responsible for a Statesville convenience store robbery on January 16 has been arrested in Wichita Falls, TX by US Marshals, with the assistance of Texas State Troopers.

Gary Shenard Green was taken into custody during a routine traffic stop. He is currently wanted for the Statesville robbery and also has outstanding warrants for breaking and entering and safecracking charges in Charlotte. He will be extradited back to North Carolina where the warrants will be served.

The Statesville robbery occurred shortly before 10:00 p.m. when an alarm activation was set off at the Royal Express on E. Broad St off of I-77. The alarm activation was followed by a call to police from a store clerk reporting that the business had been robbed.

The clerk reported that a black male, wearing a mask and carrying a knife, entered the store and demanded money. The suspect proceeded to take an undisclosed amount of cash and two cartons of cigarettes before fleeing the scene on foot. Officers were unable to immediately find the individual after arriving at the scene and canvassing the area.
