CLEVELAND COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - An armed robbery in Catawba County on Friday evening resulted in a police chase, an arrest of one suspect and the death of another from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Saturday morning.
Catawba County police first responded to reports of an armed robbery at the CVS pharmacy on S NC 127 Highway late Friday evening. Officials encountered a suspect vehicle shortly after the reports and chased the car into Cleveland County before pulling it over on Davis Baptist Church Rd. where they arrested the female driver.
During the initial arrest, the male passenger in the car exited the vehicle and fled from authorities. The individual escaped but at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, Cleveland County Sheriff’s Deputies noticed a suspicious male walking along US 74. When a deputy pulled over to check on the welfare of the individual, the suspect retreated into the woods where he was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
No further information has been released at this time as this remains an active investigation.
