CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Hundreds of thousands of federal employees received checks Friday with $0.00 on them as the partial government shutdown continues. However, a local Charlotte pizza joint is stepping up to help those families affected.

The owner of Pure Pizza took to Instagram to announce that any federal employee who did not get paid on Friday could come into either restaurant location and eat for free.

Pure Pizza has locations at the 7th Street Market and in Plaza Midwood off of Central Avenue.

The owner requests that federal employees bring their federal I.D. with them when they stop by. Also, their families are welcome.

“Your paycheck and well being should not be a political debate," the owner said in the posting.

The owner says it will go on as long as the shutdown lasts.

“Anyone that is in this situation where over the last 22 days they have not received pay, we want to say that we support you and that we are here. However, we are able to ease the pain a little, we would like to be able to do that,” said Juli Ghazi, the owner of Pure Pizza. “We love good food and people so, to be able to step in at a time like this and be supportive is really a great thing.”
