The center, located in Shelby, opened in 2014 which now holds the history of the five-string banjo master and the history of Scruggs hometown, according to the Earl Scruggs Center.

Scruggs learned how to play the banjo and taught himself a unique three-finger playing style which is now known as “Scruggs Style.”

Scruggs passed away at the age of 88 on March 28, 2012 in Tennessee from natural causes.
