CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The CMPD Sexual Assault Cold Case Unit has arrested a man in connection with a sex assault case stemming from a crime that was committed in 1995.
Nathaney Davis, 43, was arrested on Wednesday and charged with first degree rape, first degree sex offense, first degree kidnapping and robbery with a dangerous weapon. These charges stem from an incident that occurred on June 5, 1995 when a 23-year-old woman walking along Nations Ford Rd. was approached by two armed men who robbed her of her jewelry and money.
One of the men involved in the robbery later sexually assaulted the victim. The victim was able to get to a phone and contact authorities after the suspects fled from the scene. A sexual assault kit was completed at CMC where DNA was collected from the sexual assault suspect.
A federal grant that CMPD received in 2018 helped the department to go back and conduct additional testing to these kits which led to the connection of DNA from this case to Davis. Davis is currently being held in custody by the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office.
Anyone with information concerning this case or the suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
