Marijuana, heroin, money, guns seized in multiple traffic stops in Union County

UNION COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - Deputies in Union County had a busy day including the seizure of drugs, guns and money along with a fleeing suspect who crashed into a tree Friday.

According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, the narcotics unit wrapped up the first week of the 2019 with a productive Friday.

Friday evening, narcotics detectives, working with the Monroe Police Department, initiated a traffic stop of a vehicle on US-74 near Secrest Shortcut Road.

The driver fled, leading to a brief pursuit that ended as the driver crashed into a tree near Rolling Hills Country Club.

The driver fled the crash scene on foot but was apprehended without incident.

A search of his vehicle resulted in the seizure of a trafficking level quantity of heroin, a small quantity of marijuana and approximately $3,000.

The driver, 20-year-old Jarny Smaikel Fonseca, of Charlotte remains in the Union County Jail facing multiple drug charges, including trafficking heroin and driving-related charges filed by the Monroe Police Department.

Friday afternoon, detectives stopped a Hummer and an investigation resulted in the seizure of handguns, marijuana, THC vape cartridges, unknown pressed pills and over $2,400.

John David Braswell, Jr., 30, of Robeson County was arrested and charged with several drug violations.
