CATAWBA COUNTY, NC (WBTV) - Catawba County Animal Services confirmed on Monday afternoon that they were handling their 14th case of rabies discovered in the area in 2018.
On Dec. 19, Animal Services responded to a call regarding a dog who had been exposed to a dead raccoon in its yard. Officials sent the raccoon to Raleigh wgere the North Carolina Public Health Laboratory determined that the animal had tested positive for rabies.
The dog is currently being held in quarantine at a local shelter while officials review its vaccination status.
Pet owners who suspect their pet had contact with a rabid animal are also urged to call Animal Services. Catawba County Animal Services can be reached at (828) 464-7686.
