Arrests made in deadly Harrisburg shooting

HARRISBURG, NC (WBTV) - Five people are charged in connection with a public park shooting that left one person dead and another injured in Cabarrus County last month.

The shooting happened on Friday, Dec. 28 at the Harrisburg Park on Sims Parkway. Deputies were called to the area after residents reported hearing gunshots in the area.

That’s when deputies say they noticed a vehicle and found 20-year-old Taryn Presley of Kannapolis and 18-year-old Nicholas Body of Concord with gunshot wounds. Presley later died. Body recovered and was released from the hospital.

Nicholas John Carl Brooks, 17, Jaylen Dashawn Tyson, 19 and Joenel Santiago, 17 were initially charged in the deadly shooting. Friday, police announced two more arrests: 18-year-old Mason Whitener and 18-year-old Gabrielle Skye Dabney.

Whitener is charged with conspiracy to commit a felony and misdemeanor possession of marijuana. Dabney was charged with conspiracy to commit a felony, possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance.

Brooks and Tyson were charged with murder and conspiracy to commit a felony and Santiago was charged with conspiracy to commit a felony.

Officials say the victims and suspects knew each other, and the crime was an isolated incident,
