Person struck by school bus, seriously injured in east Charlotte

Pedestrian hit by school bus

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - One person was rushed to the hospital after being struck by a school bus in east Charlotte Wednesday afternoon.

The crash happened just before 3 p.m. on the 3700 block of Central Avenue near Eastway Drive. Medic said the victim was taken to Carolinas Medical Center with very serious injuries.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police says kids were on the bus at the time of the accident.

The victim's name and condition have not been released.

At the scene, a bicycle could be seen partially underneath the front of the bus. Police had at least one lane taped off and were directing traffic around the crash.

School officials said the bus involved was Number 1500 from Garringer High School. No students on board at the time of the crash were injured. The students were taken away from the scene shortly after the incident, CMPD says.

It is unclear what may have led to the wreck or if any charges are being filed.
