CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Davidson hosted Cleveland State in their season opener Tuesday night at Belk Arena.
Four Wildcats scored in double figures, including sophomore Kellan Grady who led the way with 24 points, shooting 5 of 11 from 3-point range.
“We’re not going to lose confidence, and we’re not going to stop shooting - with patience and with consistency they’re eventually going to fall so I think we did a good job,” Davidson guard Kellan Grady said. “We feel we can make guys defend us and get the best shot, not just the first shot we can get. That will be very tough to beat. But for the first game, I think it was definitely a good start.”
The Wildcats were in control for most of the game, leading by as many as 26 at one point with the final score being 83-63.
Davidson also out rebounded Cleveland State 47-25 with 21 of those boards coming on the offensive end.
“We had moments tonight where we were brilliant, where we did some things offensively and defensively that I’m absolutely thrilled about. First game of the year there’s going to be some rough edges. You’ve got some new guys out there that haven’t been involved in a year,” Davidson head coach Bob McKillop said.
Davidson will host Dartmouth Friday, tip-off is set for 7 o’clock.
