Michael’s heavy rains, strong winds move through WBTV viewing area

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Michael is making its closest pass to Charlotte now. The National Hurricane Center has indicated it is about 35 miles SSE of Charlotte. (Not just every day the NHC mentions Charlotte.) Maximum sustained winds are 50mph.

The rain is still falling in many areas. There is a long list of counties with a Flash Flood Warning in place. You can see from the graphic just below. If you don’t have a warning, you at least have a Flash Flood Watch. There is a tornado watch in effect for our eastern counties. (We are not included in that.)

This afternoon, not only will some rain be left around, the winds will also pick up. 40mph wind gusts will be pretty widespread. Gusts up to 50mph will also be possible though. With the saturated ground, it won’t take much for trees and power lines to come down so be aware of that.
