THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN GREENVILLE-SPARTANBURG HAS ISSUED AN

* URBAN AND SMALL STREAM FLOOD ADVISORY FOR MINOR FLOODING OF POOR
DRAINAGE AREAS IN...
MECKLENBURG COUNTY IN THE PIEDMONT OF NORTH CAROLINA...

* UNTIL 1230 PM EDT

* AT 916 AM EDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED AN
AREA OF HEAVY RAINFALL ACROSS THE ADVISORY AREA. DOPPLER RADAR
ESTIMATES AND AUTOMATED RAIN GAUGES INDICATED THAT BETWEEN ONE AND A
HALF AND TWO INCHES OF RAIN HAVE FALLEN ACROSS CENTRAL AND NORTHERN
MECKLENBURG COUNTY SINCE 6 AM. A BAND OF MODERATE TO HEAVY RAIN WILL
TRACK ACROSS THE COUNTY THROUGH 11 AM. THIS BAND WILL RESULT IN
ANOTHER ONE HALF INCH TO THREE QUARTERS OF AN INCH OF RAIN. THE
COMBINATION OF ONGOING RUNOFF AND ADDITIONAL RAIN WILL RESULT IN
RISING WATER LEVELS AND INCREASING FLOW RATES ON SMALL CREEKS AND
STREAMS. IN ADDITION...DEEP PONDING OF WATER CAN BE EXPECTED IN
AREAS OF POOR DRAINAGE.

* RUNOFF FROM THIS RAINFALL WILL CAUSE MINOR FLOODING TO OCCUR...
ESPECIALLY ALONG SMALL STREAMS AND NEAR LOW WATER CROSSINGS. SOME
LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE MINOR FLOODING INCLUDE...CENTER CITY
CHARLOTTE...DAVIDSON...HUNTERSVILLE......SOUTHPARK MALL...AND THE
PLAZA.

AT 915 AM THE STAGE ON THE WEST BRANCH OF THE ROCKY RIVER WAS BELOW
THE MOUTH OF THE SOUTH PRONG RIVER WAS 12 FEET AND RISING. FLOOD
STAGE AT THIS LOCATION IS 19 FEET. HOWEVER...LOW AREAS ALONG POPLAR
TENT ROAD NEAR THE INTERSECTION OF COX MILL ROAD WILL BEGIN TO FLOOD.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

EXCESSIVE RUNOFF FROM THIS STORM WILL CAUSE MINOR FLOODING OF SMALL
CREEKS AND STREAMS...URBAN AREAS...HIGHWAYS...STREETS AND UNDERPASSES
AS WELL AS OTHER DRAINAGE AREAS AND LOW LYING SPOTS.
